OK. I did it... I RSVP'd, tell me please, WHAT's NEXT??

***The thing to remember about Rewind, is that it is
NOT about the 40 Watt, the bands or even the “Golden
Days of Athens
”. It is about re-connecting with old
friends and folks that for whatever reason, were in
the same time and place with one another during this
pivotal time in American music history.***

Hey Rewinders!
Just a quick note to say how excited we are about the fast-approaching party. To those of you who have already RSVP’d...thanks! For those who are still making arrangements to come, please keep in mind the importance of your quick reply. The Friday night show with Pylon is limited to 700 people, so in order to ensure your entry to the show we highly recommend that you send in your RSVP before July 1. At some point the 40 Watt will release tickets for sale, so if you plan to attend, PLEASE reply quickly. Your ticket to Pylon, as well as to all other weekend events, is covered by the money you send in with your registration form.

We also would like to emphasize how important it is that each person who plans to attend the event make a monetary contribution. Donations are the only source of funding for Athens Rewind, so in order for us to be able to make the necessary arrangements to put the party on, everyone must make a donation. Many people have offered their services, whether playing music or deejaying or serving on the planning committee, but these services are not in lieu of making a monetary donation. Each person attending the party should plan to make a donation .

One last note: please be aware that you must pre-register for this event. We cannot accept registration forms and money at the door on Friday night. So send in your forms!

Thanks and we look forward to seeing you all.

Fellow Athenians:

We've mailed the invitations
The scoop:
Athens Rewind: Dance Don’t Think!
is the weekend of
July 29th to the 31st, 2005.

It’s a party for the people who listened to local music, played local music, danced to local music, supported local music, DJ-ed, managed, bartended...as many people as we could find from the hey-day of Athens bohemia, circa Fall 77 to Summer 83.
This event is not public, we want to retain the “reunion” aspect.
We've generated a network to keep you posted- filling you in on all the latest and greatest details.

We mailed out invitations the week of May 7. Our chosen venues limit the maximum number of guests permitted to attend. As the RSVP's come in we'll know how many more invitations we will be able to send out.

RewindeRumour of the moment...

oh-ok to play with PYLON
PARTY LIKE IT'S 1982
Today's deep dish...
"I just bumped into Lynda Stipe and she said Oh-OK
would be glad to open for Pylon at the Rewind. She
has spoken to Linda H. about it."

Pylon is playing the Friday night of REWIND
Hi Everyone! Just a quick update about the party. We’ve finalized most of the itinerary, andthe most important news is that PYLON is playing the Friday night of Rewind. It will be their only complete show of the summer, and we are excited that they are going to be part of the weekend festivities.

Before the show there will be a registration cocktail party just up the street. There you can check in, pickup a laminate to be worn all weekend (designed by Keith Bennett...thanks!), and enjoy drinks and hors d’œuvres before heading off to the show.

The events for Saturday, July 30th, are still being planned, but will consist of a buffet cocktail party early in the evening, probably at a downtown restaurant reserved just for us, a pub crawl (for those who have the stamina!)
followed by a private dance party consisting of celebrity deejays, a photo gallery, movies, videos, and possibly more live music. There will also be a quiet room for sitting and catching up with people.

Invitations will be mailed the second week in May, so be on the lookout. If you haven’t contacted us with a mailing address, please do so as soon as possible to be sure you get your invitation. There will be payment instructions and a page where you can write your most memorable Athens experiences. Please send stories! We’ll be compiling them to give out at the party.
See you soon!

...Ultimately all will happen as it happens, exactly as it magically happened in 1979. Not one single thing or decision or difference of opinion or dishonest person or quarrel or (God forbid) accidently forgotten guest can screw it up. The spirit that brought us all together the first time will rule the day. Perfection is unattainable. Chaos is more scintillating at a party anyway!

Funny thing about "throwing" a party is the throwing part. After all that fussing and fretting and brainstorming and meeting- hours of effort; you got to LET GO of the darn thing! It rarely "lands" where you thought it would, but miraculously years later people still talk about the grand and glorious time they had like it was yesterday. Sometimes they even write about you in books:>

Please Note- Below is the original letter, circa March '05, preserved here for historic archival purpose. It is not a recent missive of the party news!.

You may have heard that a small group of us are planning a huge party for this summer in Athens. So here’s the scoop:

The name of the event is
Athens Rewind: Dance Don’t Think!
This is based on a theme created long ago to promote new music at Tyrone’s O.C.

The date for Athens Rewind is the weekend of July 29th to the 31st, 2005. The party will take place in Athens either at a warehouse or a club reserved especially for the event, or possibly both!

The planning group is composed of the following people: Julie House, Paul Scales, Kathleen O’Brien Layson, Kenny Rogers, Maureen McLaughlin and Paul Butchart. Our West Coast Liason/Webmistress is Leslie Michel.

We formed to plan a party that would include as many people as we could find from the hey-day ranging from roughly Fall of 1977 to the Fall of 1983. The list loosely includes anybody who listened to local music, played local music, danced to local music, supported local music, DJ-ed, managed, bartended...you get the idea!

So far the preliminary response to the party has been overwhelmingly positive. We want to keep you posted and fill you in on all the details, and we need a network of contacts to accomplish this.

The planning committee has divvied up the names and we are trying to think of as many people as possible, but of course, our collective memory is limited. This is a mutually inclusive event, so all input is welcome. It will not be public, however, as we want to retain the “reunion” aspect.

We are also interested in any type of memorabilia you could donate or share for this event.

What we need from you is the following information: Are you interested in this event? Can you provide us with the names of anybody from Athens during this approximate time frame who might be interested in attending a party and give us any contact information you have?

If so, Please fill out this form with your contact info so we can keep in touch.

NOTE: THIS INFORMATION WILL NOT BE SHARED WITH OTHERS AND IS SIMPLY FOR OUR CONTACT DATABASE

Our proposed ticket cost will be a minimum donation of $30.00 per person with one guest per invitee. Please note that this invitation is for the you and one guest. If you would like to add names to the guest list, contact Athens Rewind personally to provide the information. Thanks!

We've arranged a discount block of hotel rooms. Plus we hope to have a family affair at some point that weekend.

Please send us some feedback!
We look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,

The Athens Rewind Committee
Julie, Paul S., Kathleen, Kenny, Maureen, Paul B. and Leslie
